Educational Tools for Hispanic Children with Disabilities
Thanks to the resources Dicapta receives from the U.S. Department of Education, we are providing high quality Spanish video descriptions and captions for educational TV programming. Teachers that have Hispanic students who are blind, have low vision, are deaf, or are hard of hearing can use this media content without worrying about accessibility issues.
Through workshops, we are also training teachers and parents on the use of accessible media. Visit the project's website to sign up for workshops and learn more about the project's activities.

Digital Aided Descriptions (DAD)
Encouraging Learning Among Children Through Creativity and Dialogue
DAD is a platform that allows students to create, as a team, descriptions for images which may either be selected by a teacher or that are part of sets of images suggested by the DAD platform. DAD promises outstanding results when utilized in a diverse classroom. Instead of the teacher needing to fully describe images for blind or visually impaired students, sighted children will work with the visually impaired children to develop comprehensive descriptions. This way, all the children involved will enhance their vocabulary while developing collaborative skills. This web-based tool will allow the teacher to monitor, read, and correct students' work in real time.
Phase 1 of this project was developed with funds from a grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR grant number 90BI0027). NIDILRR is a Center within the Administration for Community Living (ACL), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Audiovisual material prepared for the Center on Technology and Disability - CDT Assistive Technology Educational Media is a group of videos intended to inform young people with disabilities, their teachers and families about the services and resources available for them on their educational journey. These resources are available in Spanish and English.
