The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has released disability training materials that focus on the rights and responsibilities of passengers with disabilities. These materials are intended to be used by both the airline personnel and the traveling public, and are available at the DOT website.

They are available in digital format as well as brochures and pocket-size pamphlets. The DOT has also created videos and provided versions of the videos with closed captions and audio description.  The training materials focus on 4 topics:

  • Wheelchair and Guided Assistance
  • Service Animals
  • Assistive Devices
  • Seating Accommodations

To make sure you know what to do to have a smooth plane trip with your service animal, follow the links to the DOT training videos which include CC & audio description:

Remember, if you have a disability access-related issue you can always ask to speak with the airline’s Complaint Resolution Official, who can help you on the spot. In addition, if you have any doubts and complaints contact the DOT’s Disability Hotline 1-800-778-4838.

There is no excuse not to know your rights and responsibilities! Take a look at these materials and be informed.
