Verizon facing an FCC fine over accessibility concerns

Verizon is facing a $100.000 fine from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for allegedly violating its obligations to provide information about the accessibility of one of its services.

In December of 2021, an individual filed a complaint that said that Verizon Wireless’ Premium Visual Voicemail service was not accessible. According to the FCC, Verizon had not provided enough information to show whether the service was accessible or not.

“The Enforcement Bureau takes seriously its investigations of companies’ compliance with the Commission’s accessibility rules,” said Acting FCC Enforcement Bureau Chief Loyaan A. Egal. “We will take appropriate action to ensure others appreciate the importance of these investigations and the need to fully respond to our requests for information.”

Verizon will be given an opportunity to respond and the FCC will consider the party's submission of evidence and legal arguments before acting further to resolve the matter.
