Why Choose Dicapta ?

I use video description whenever possible, and I am so grateful for it. It allows me to see through someone else's eyes what is happening on the screen.

Alexandra Adams will be the UK's first Deafblind Doctor - Deafblind Awareness Month

During deaf-blind awareness month, we at Dicapta have decided to put the spotlight on some figures of the deaf-blind community.

Becoming a medical doctor is difficult. It requires rigorous studying, strong motivation, keen critical thinking skills, resilience, and the ability to deal with difficult situations. It is also a demanding job in terms of workload, with long shifts being common among professionals. Not to mention the people skills that all doctors must develop during their career.

Alexandra Adams, a UK deaf-blind woman, is showing she has what it takes to become the first deaf-blind medical doctor in her country. She is 28 years old, and, for a while, she has been recording her journey to becoming a doctor on TikTok and various other social media websites.

Adams was born deaf in both ears; she has less than 5 percent vision in her left eye and none in her right. At the start of the pandemic, she was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which forced her to stay for 17 months at a hospital, delaying her medical career.

Adams is a relentlessly optimistic person with a clear goal of becoming a Palliative Doctor. She loves traveling and is a public speaker, writer, artist, and published poet. She also once upon a time trained to become a paralympic athlete for London 2012. According to her blog (which she is very active in), her favorite sports are skiing and swimming.

The soon-to-be doctor has an active presence on various social media sites, where she shares her life experience and dispels stereotypes about disabilities. You can find a link to all her content here.
