Title: Semillitas and Dicapta Partnership
SOMOSTV’s Semillitas (“Little Seeds”), a TV channel devoted to the preservation of the Spanish language and heritage for preschoolers, and Dicapta, a full service media access company, are proud to announce their partnership to serve Hispanic children with disabilities. Through a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Education, Dicapta will add captioning and video description to Semillita’s educational programming allowing children with audio and visual limitations to have access to their unique content.  Video description provides enhanced detail of a program's visual content and is inserted during existing pauses in the show's audio track. This enhancement makes television programming accessible to viewers who are visually impaired.  Video description has also been shown to benefit children with learning disabilities.   Semillitas will not only be providing high quality educational programming to their viewers, but also supplemental information that will ensure total inclusion.

"Semillitas" features children's programming from both branded and international producers that is entertaining, wholesome and free of any violence, packaged in a soothing, culturally relevant on-air presence. The channel, which is produced and distributed by Miami-based SOMOSTV, fills a niche that provides programming for Hispanic children that allows them to grow in a bicultural environment, managing both the English and Spanish languages as well as preserving their Hispanic cultural identity. "Semillitas" offers state of the art animated series, narrated in a neutral Spanish accent, including a majority of content acquired from Latin America. This gives the channel a unique cultural focus by presenting music and traditions shared by most Latinos.

“It is very important for us and to our mission that that Semillitas’ content is available for all Latino children as well as to their parents,” said Luis Villanueva, President and CEO of SOMOSTV. “In the case of children with special needs, we think that our support in helping parents is particularly valuable in providing healthy entertainment and assisting in the preservation of our heritage and contribution to this nation’s diversity. We believe that Dicapta helps us in offering a better product for our clients and audience as well as in accomplishing our mission, so we are very happy with this alliance”.

"We are very pleased that we can help increase accessibility to educational media. It is a pleasure to be working with such an amazing team. I’m sure that this partnership will make a difference in children with disabilities from Hispanic origin,” said Maria Victoria Diaz, president and CEO of Dicapta.

Elizabeth Jaramillo, Dicapta’s Marketing Manager added, “We at Dicapta are proud to be able to provide Semillitas’ viewers a better opportunity to learn things they otherwise couldn’t. We are truly convinced of the importance of providing accessibility as an essential tool for human development, inclusion and education.”
